Tamil cinema fans, rejoice! The long-awaited collaboration between superstar Suriya and acclaimed director Vetrimaaran is finally materializing with Vaadivaasal.

The film, a gritty and emotional exploration of Tamil Nadu’s traditional bull-taming sport, is now officially set to release on April 10, 2026.
Story Inspired by Classic Tamil Literature
Vaadivaasal is an adaptation of the iconic 1940 novella written by C.S. Chellappa. The story revolves around Picchi, a determined young man who enters the famed bull-taming arena of Periyapatti. His mission? To confront and tame Kaari, the legendary bull that once defeated his father — turning it into a symbolic tale of honor, revenge, and tradition.
Director-Actor Dream Team: Vetrimaaran & Suriya Unite
This project marks the first-ever collaboration between Vetrimaaran and Suriya, creating massive anticipation among cinephiles. Known for hard-hitting narratives (Asuran, Visaranai), Vetrimaaran brings his signature raw realism, while Suriya steps into a culturally rooted, intense character with emotional depth.
Jallikattu at the Core: A Tribute to Tamil Culture
The title Vaadivaasal refers to the narrow entry gate where Jallikattu (bull-taming) contestants face off against the raging bulls. More than a sport, it represents Tamil pride and generational bravery. The film is expected to showcase authentic practices and deeply rooted rituals, highlighting the spirit of rural Tamil Nadu.
Filming Schedule & Production Details
After multiple delays due to the pandemic and scheduling conflicts, Vaadivaasal is now back on track. Filming begins in June 2025, with shooting planned in real Jallikattu locations for authenticity. The film is being produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu under V Creations, adding a layer of industry excellence to the ambitious project.
